changing your name

After a divorce, for various reasons, you may wish to have a change of name.  For example, you may be contemplating changing your name to a previous name.

On a legal level you do not have to do anything formal to change name: you just have to start using it.  However, on a practical level you may need some evidence to convince other people, such as your bank and utility providers, that your name has changed.  This can be achieved through a change of name deed.

Equally, you may wish to remarry and would like to change the surname of the children that live with you to that of your new partner.

Our family solicitors can guide you through the process of how to change name.
