civil partnership solicitors
The Civil Partnership Act 2004 came into force on 5th December 2005 and provides for the legal registration of civil partners. It gives same sex couples similar rights to those enjoyed by heterosexual couples who are married.
When a civil partnership breaks down there are procedures equivalent to those for married couples to resolve matters between the partners. Please see our article: Civil partnerships for more information.
It has become common for couples contemplating a civil partnership to enter into a civil partnership agreement. Much like a pre-nuptial agreement this document sets out what the couples would like to happen in the event of a breakdown of the relationship. To find out more please see our article: Civil partnership agreements.
