We will take full instructions from you for the preparation of your document (e.g. will, lasting power of attorney. trust deed etc.) and make sure that it meets your full requirements. We will make sure that your property is dealt with as you want it to be.
There are many pitfalls that can occur in making ‘home made’ legal documents and, therefore, it is very important that you instruct an expert.
Our team specialises in the preparation of wills, lasting powers of attorney, trusts and related matters and has considerable knowledge of these areas. And because we are solicitors we also have knowledge of other areas of law which may need to be considered when producing your legal documents.
In most cases we can give you a fixed quotation for preparing your will or other legal document. In the case of complex documentation we can give you guidance as to the likely amount of our charges once we have taken initial instructions from you. We discount our charges for mirror documents, i.e. documents in similar terms for husbands and wives or partners.
Wills and other documents can be very personal. We are aware of this. You can be assured that the information you supply to us and the contents of such documents will not be disclosed to anyone outside this firm without your express authority.
Wills are not only a very useful way of leaving your property to the people or charities you want to benefit but also are a way of reducing, or possibly eliminating, the amount of inheritance tax that may be payable on your death. The preparation of a suitably tax efficient will or trust may save your beneficiaries from paying substantial amounts of inheritance tax. We have considerable experience of preparing tax efficient wills and trusts.
If you keep your will or other legal documents at home there is always a risk that they may be lost or possibly found by someone who is not meant to see it. We provide a free document storage service for our clients.
We feel that we can particularly help elderly clients. Our firm is located in central Plymouth near the bus station and we have parking facilities outside our offices. Elderly clients can be seen in a ground floor office. We also make home visits.
We strongly recommend elderly clients to make a lasting power of attorney as this enables a trusted relative, friend or professional advisor to look after their affairs should they become either mentally or physically unable to do so. This is a wise precaution.
Appointing executors is one of the most important parts of making your will. These are the people who will identify all of your assets, gather them in, pay liabilities and make sure that your wishes are carried out. It can be a demanding task and it is therefore important to make the right choice. The right choice may very well be your solicitor as we have considerable experience in acting as executors for our clients.
We understand that some clients are unable to come to our office due to ill health or some other reason and in these circumstances we will come to you.
We recognise that due to work or other commitments, it may not be possible for some clients to see us during our normal office hours. In these cases we will try to fit in with our clients’ availability.
