Amanda is a Partner of the firm and specialises in Family Law. Since qualifying in 2005 she has practised in Cornwall and Devon covering all aspects of family law including divorce and finances, pensions, children matters, civil partnerships, cohabitee disputes, domestic abuse, cohabitation and pre-nuptial agreements.
Amanda understands that the process of being involved in a family case can be very daunting and emotional. She is friendly and approachable whilst being professional and passionate about her work. She understands the need to explain matters clearly from the outset, at what can often be a difficult and confusing time.
Whenever possible Amanda undertakes her own advocacy. In 2011 she became a member of the Law Society children panel and in 2012 attained Family Law Specialist accreditation with Resolution, an association of family lawyers committed to resolving family disputes in a constructive and non confrontational way.
Outside of Gard & Co. Amanda enjoys keeping busy with her two young sons, baking, exploring and hunting for dragons!
Amanda has a LLB Law (Hons) degree and completed the postgraduate Legal Practice Course at the University of the West of England in Bristol.
‘I can’t thank you enough for everything you have done for me and the kindness and concern you showed throughout all my difficult times. I am so very grateful.’ Mrs F, Plymouth
‘Unfortunately due to a marriage breakdown I had to find a solicitor to help me. I had no experience at all in this matter and as a single working mum to a small child I didn’t know where to turn. I contacted a number of local solicitors who deal with family law matters, and due to my financial circumstances, refused to help me. I began to think that no one would help me, I then made contact with Gard and Co. I spoke with the receptionist and explained my situation, she was absolutely brilliant, she arranged an appointment for me with Amanda.
I was very worried about going for the meeting with Amanda, but from the first moment she provided me with reassurance. She is very professional and knowledgeable but most importantly she is completely approachable and very easy to talk to.
A financial arrangement was agreed which meant that I could pay at the end of the process.
Fast forward to 18 months later and I can honestly say that Amanda and her colleagues have been absolutely amazing. Amanda has remained in contact with me, updated me at all stages and has arranged meetings when she knew I needed them.
There were times when I didn’t think I could cope with any more stress and worry but Amanda took most of that away from me.
Amanda remained realistic throughout the process, which involved child contact, financial and divorce matters, she explained everything to me in detail and guided me through any decisions I had to make.
I am extremely happy with the outcome and this is down to the hard work of Amanda and her colleagues. I can now provide my child with a lovely future.’ Mrs T, Plymouth
