Rehabilitation

Once discharged from hospital, early rehabilitation treatment can have a very positive effect upon long term recovery.

Rehabilitation can include:

  • physiotherapy
  • psychological treatment, inc. trauma focused therapies and counselling services
  • chiropractic treatment
  • MRI and CT scans
  • operations, inc. joint and dental reconstruction, scar revision and spinal procedures
  • skin camouflage
  • prosthetics

Unfortunately the NHS does not have the funding to provide rehabilitation treatment in most cases so clients have to seek private treatment.

If the defendant admits liability for the injury then an early interim payment to cover the costs of rehabilitation treatment can be sought. An interim payment is a payment made before the end of the case, when the full amount of compensation is decided. The interim payment would be deducted from the final award so it is not an extra payment but it allows rehabilitation treatment to take place as soon as possible.

In most accident related cases liability is decided at an early stage. However, if an injury has been caused by clinical negligence then it is usual for liability to be denied until a much later stage.

Specialist injury lawyers will aim to ensure the best possible early rehabilitation care and support at the appropriate stages of the legal process.
